Alleged idiot criminals caught one day later

*** UPDATE: WHIO video added.

Darke County Sheriff’s Detectives worked non-stop through the night following leads and processing the scene of a home invasion robbery on State Route 121 north of Greenville, Ohio. During the robbery an elderly lady was pushed down and then duct taped to a chair and locked in a closet as thieves ransacked her home and stole thousands of dollars in property including her car. In the early morning hours of 01/05/09 Darke County Sheriff’s Detectives went to the City of Dayton, Ohio following up on a possible location of suspects. Detectives located the elderly victim’s car in the area of Richmond Ave. and Five Oaks Ave. in Dayton. After conducting surveillance, the stolen vehicle was stopped by Dayton Police Department and three suspects were taken into custody for questioning in this robbery. Darke County Sheriff’s Detectives and Dayton Police Officers also recovered stolen property from this robbery during a search of 121 Richmond Ave. in Dayton, Ohio.

Arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Darke County on an unrelated matter is Teresa A. Crawford age 52 of Akron, OH (left). Also taken into custody is Clarence Blair III age 26 of Akron, OH (right); and George Simpson age 23 of Dayton, OH (middle). All three subjects were found in the elderly victim’s stolen vehicle when taken into custody. Charges against all three subjects related to the robbery in Darke County are pending a case review by Darke County Prosecutor R. Kelly Ormsby. The case remains under investigation as Detectives continue to work to recover the victim’s stolen property.

Exit question: what is the appropriate sentence for three thugs who beat up, duct taped, and robbed a 71-yer-old lady?

  1. Answer: Whatever the maximum is allowed by law.

    Pretty ridiculous crime to commit.

Something could be said about crimes that occur out of desparation (theft/robbery, etc), but when you go out of your way to harm an innocent person, let alone an innocent, defenseless person, there's just no defense for that.

  2. I think the tape on the side of the lady's glasses is priceless..... hahaha

  3. Death would be the appropriate sentence, but nobody wants to hear that answer.

  4. Death! No use sending them to prison where they would be warm in the winter, cool in the summer, 3 meals a day, medical care, dental care, basketball courts, color TV, and on and on, all at our expense!
I can hear the judge already. Time served (since it will take forever to get to trial), 90 days probation, first offense, etc. I've often wondered what the sentence would be if the victim was the judge's mother!

  7. When homeowners start putting a bullet into thugs that break into their homes, that is when things will start to change and not until then. If you break into my house and I'm at home, YOU WILL be shot, either killed or wish you were dead.

  8. firearms will not deter these types of crimes, meaning, idiots seeking out elderly folks. Even if they thought she had a gun, they'd make a run at her anyway.

These kinds of thugs are cowards who prey on the defenseless (i'd classify her as defenseless even if she was packing).

  9. what an odd threesome. what intellect put that team together? What the area really needs is more Section 8 housing.

  11. I have questions about the break in....how did they select this house? What possessed them to come out of Dayton to this area? Were they just passing through the area and saw this house and said "lets go for it?" Had they selected this house because they knew they could get "good stuff" from this house? Did they stake out this house first?
In Darke County a robbery like this is very rare, but it is very scary, and the life of this elderly lady will probably never be the same.
Time served will not be sufficient for these 'people'....they need long sentences to educate them about their horrible criminal ways.

  13. 25 years minimum, I'll bet they will not do more than a year, and that is sad as hell.
Until we start locking these people up for years or decades this will keep happening.

  14. What one of our fine upstanding lawyers in the county will be the one to beg to the courts to get these worthless people found innocent?

The job of a DEFENSE attorney is to DEFEND the client. In our system we are innocent until proven guilty and have the right to a fair trial with legal representation. I realize this is unpopular in Darke County where everyone accused is always guilty and no matter the sentence it's never good enough.

I would say since the people are from Montgomery County they would hire a local attorney, not one from Darke County. But that's beside the point, because no matter where in the country this occured they could find someone to represent them. I know this goes against popular belief that everything and everyone in Darke County is worse than anywhere else.

Congratulations to Darke County Sheriff's Office for tracking down the suspects so quickly. Let's hope the justice system prevails.

  19. These 3 people should be put away for a long time. Anyway.... my mother is 70, and far from "elderly". She's laughing about how the media keeps emphasizing this poor woman's age. Think about it, how many people do you know between 68-75 that you would consider calling "elderly"? Isn't that really a term reserved for people who do not live on their own, drive a car, or need assistance to get along in some way? I like to think of the victim in this case as "older", and able to keep her cool in a very stressful situation. I hope that she testifies in court and socks it back to those 3 thugs!
