Darke County issues snow advisory

Sheriff Toby L. Spencer announced that as of 12:00 PM on January 7th, 2010, Darke County will be under a Level 1 Snow Emergency. A Level 1 Snow Emergency means that roadways are hazardous. Extreme caution should be used if travel is necessary.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Darke County through Friday and snow will continue to fall throughout the afternoon. Increasing winds this afternoon will create blowing and drifting snow.

A LEVEL 1 SNOW ADVISORY MEANS ROADWAYS ARE HAZARDOUS DUE TO FALLING AND BLOWING SNOW. TRAVEL IS NOT LIMITED AT THIS TIME, HOWEVER EXTREME CAUTION SHOULD BE USED IF TRAVEL IS NECESSARY.

As of 1:30 p.m., the main streets in Greenville are covered with either snow or slush. The asphalt is covered. The side streets appear to have had one pass from the snow trucks and are passable. All city travel is treacherous. Go slowly.

There is only one lane open on the 127 bypass, but 127 was pretty clear otherwise with a track of snow sticking between the tire tracks. Some of the county and township roads in Greenville and Neave Townships appeared to be untouched.

Stay home if you can.
