Lady Wave is 26-3 after first two playoff wins

Madison Shuret
The girls team is 26-3 now, and they defeated Greenon (3-20), 12-0, and Benjamin Logan (13-13), 1-0, in the first two sectional games played this past Tuesday and Thursday. Both games were at Stebbins Field, and give the Wave 14 shutout victories so far this year. The Thursday night game was the 110th win for the Lady Wave seniors. Greenville is Number 1 in the Ohio High School Softball Coaches Association poll, Division 2 (May 10). Their next game Tuesday would have been against Tipp City (#3 in the State poll), except Springfield Shawnee advanced instead of the Red Devils. The two teams will face each other this coming Tuesday at Pleasant Hill Newton High School against Springfield Shawnee.

The team picture below is the combined varsity and reserve teams, taken May 13. Row 1 SENIORS: Devan Bruner, Jordyn Fisherback, Ashlee Powell, and Tiffany Carrubba; Row 2: Madison Fletcher, Meghan Burns, Brittany Miller, Kami Berner, Kaitlyn McDermitt, Nicole Davis, Tabitha Enicks, Madison Shuret, Kelly Martin, Ashley Hanes, and Paige Wolter; Row 3: Bill Booker (program asst), Denny Ruble (asst.coach), John Davis (asst.coach), Rachel Fender, Rachel Class, Erin Albright, Britanee Dunfee, Sydney Slade, Kaitlynn Jones, Britni Rex Holmes (JV/ asst.coach), Mark Burns (program asst), and Lee Stanley (asst.coach); Row 4: Jerrod Newland (Head Coach).

  1. Great job to Coach Newland and the girls, you have given us parents and the community something to be proud of.

  2. questioning anonymous ...........

Why do you only support winners you know sometimes you have to remain loyal no matter how bad it gets, that is one thing that is missing from this town. We only support the winners in case your wondering the bowling, baseball, and wrestling had winning seasons and there may be a few other sports I am missing but still SHAME ON YOU...

    Next time show your name

  3. People.... c'mon, the girls are doing well and the parents are proud. Just like the parents of kids in other sports (that win or lose) are proud.
An unfortunate fact for ANY sport at any level is that if the team wins, people come out of the woodwork, if they lose, everyone goes away. The Bengals and Reds are perfect example of that at the pro level...and I can think of one area HS team that had a winning football program a few years back and packed a million dollar stadium. Now they haven't been doing as well and the only ones that come are the parents and the band....that school would be Piqua.
As a community, yes Terence, we should be supportive of all school athletics, win or lose. But chill out, OK?

  4. Observer,

well we could at least go back to decorating Broadway and the stadium were so bland and there is no pride in this town. WE ARE THE GREENVILLE GREEN WAVE. things are just not the same as they use to be.... it has to change if this city is ever going grow again.

  5. Lee - I posted the comment about the girls because as you well know I have a daughter on that team and I HAVE ALWAYS SUPPORTED THE SOFTBALL PROGRAM, maybe you should be careful the next time you post things when you don't know who it is. I also suport my son Storm in his endeavors just as much as my daughter Paige.

I really want to know what I have to be ashamed now that you know who I am.

  6. Things are not the same as they used to be? How far are you going back? As far back as I can remember, Greenville ONLY ever decorated when a team was winning (or homecoming week). Back when I was in Greenville sports, we were pulling off upper-league finishes in most male sports and STILL not filling the seats.

You just need to understand that in Greenville, everyone always has more important things to do...like drugs or dupe the welfare system. Greenville sports just aren't a high priority.

  7. Mr. Wolter you were unidentified and not only that I understood your comment in a different way then what you intended it to mean.... my point is there are FOLKS in Greenville who only support the winners and your right your not one of them however that's a negative to online blogging unless you use your name, I made a mistake not knowing who I was talking to but I wont apologize for it b/c I still feel as if there are those people out there. Your son Storm did great things for Varsity Baseball this year and will only get better. I certainly did in 4 years and I love the softball program I wish the other sports would take that motivation and use it for example Football.

  8. What a dumb comment 8:15. Believe me, there are other areas that have real drug problems - G'ville and the surrounding area is no worse than any other smaller type town. Grow up.

I took that e-mail very personal because of having Paige and Storm both playing sports in Greenville and it frustrates me when I see what I feel is jellous attacks on the girls team. I too feel your pain when it comes to the boys sports because you are very correct when you made the statement about the other sports using that motivation like the girls do, but just remember that all starts with your varsity coach's, the good one's know how to motivate and the bad one's don't.
I can tell you that I felt sick for you guys Friday at Bellbrook, you guys deserved a better fate and really had the potential to be a district final team but some poor decisions by the coching staff killed that. On the upside you had a great year and should be very proud of your accomplishments. Good luck in whatever you do in the future.
