BEAR’S MILL EXHIBIT FEATURES TWO UNIQUE PAINTERS

“Art At the Mill” will feature the work of two painters with contrasting, yet complementary styles in an exhibit opening Friday, June 25 and continuing through Sunday, July 25. Suzanne Ally uses Behr texture paint to make abstract complex images which are meant to be hung on walls, while Christy Jennewein creatively decorates furniture with intricate and sometimes playful designs. This exhibit at historic Bear’s Mill begins with an opening night reception from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Troy resident Suzanne Ally says that she’s been through so many styles of painting that it’s embarrassing. “Well, I am who I am and do what I do, and did what I did,” she states with diffident pride. She likes mixing colors, likes the feel of the paint going onto the surface, and enjoys putting colors next to each other so that “the paint does stuff on its own after I walk away.” Suzanne says that her artists’ supplies have provided her with fifteen years of discovery. “To keep things alive, you have to keep searching and taking risks,” she said. “And I don’t expect the excitement to end anytime soon.”

Christy Jennewein manages the Cannery Art and Design Center in Dayton, but devotes as much time as possible to crafting her own diverse creations. She will be bringing to the Mill unique whimsical furniture that has served as her canvas, but can still also serve its original purpose as it decorates whatever space it occupies. A lover of abstract expressionism, Christy uses color, emotion, and experimentation as she vibrantly embellishes old chairs, chests, and other pieces to appeal to a wide range of tastes.

“Both Christy and Suzanne are brilliant artists who create engaging work filled with personality and individual appeal,” said Bear’s Mill spokesperson Julie Clark. “Their lively art will energize our gallery space, and leave viewers energized as well,” Mrs. Clark concluded.

Art created by painter Kathleen Bertolone and metal sculptor Dave Palmer remains on display at the Mill through Sunday, June 20. “Art at the Mill” is on view during regular Mill Store hours, 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sundays.
