Diabetic Group Classes

August is the time of the year when most of us think about attending the fair. This year why not make August a time when we learn more about ways to help manage our blood sugar. The Wayne HealthCare Diabetes Self Management Education program is offering a four week interactive class to help you live an active and healthy life with diabetes.

The classes will discuss facts associated with diabetes and strategies to control blood sugar. We will talk about healthy eating to control blood sugar and overall health. We will review the importance of monitoring our blood sugar and how to use the results that we are obtaining. We will discuss causes of low and high blood sugar and how to properly treat. Exercise is an important key in blood sugar management. We will discuss how to incorporate physical activity into our daily lives and strategies to help us stick with our exercise plans. The different diabetic medications can be very confusing, so we will discuss how different medications work on the body to help manage our blood sugar. We will also talk about ways to reduce our risk of complications.

The next series of classes will be offered on August 10, 12, 17 and 19, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Wayne HealthCare. If you are unable to attend the August group classes the September classes will be held Monday evenings. The October classes will be held Wednesday mornings, and the November classes will be held on Monday afternoons.

The cost to attend is $10 per class. Registration is required so please contact the Certified Diabetes Educator at 937-547-5750.

The Wayne HealthCare Diabetes Self Management Education program would like to be part of your support system. We are an accredited program through the American Association of Diabetes Educators.
