On July 8th, 2010 at approximately 4:08 PM, the Darke County Sheriff's Deputies, along with Gettysburg Fire, Arcanum Rescue and Greenville Township Rescue were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash that occurred at State Route 571 and Arcanum Bears Mill Road.
Preliminary investigation revealed a Northbound vehicle driven by Katie L. Hurst, age 24, of Dayton was stopped at the intersection of Arcanum Bears Mill Road and State Route 571. Hurst attempted to cross State Route 571, northbound on Arcanum Bears Mill Road, pulling into the path of an Eastbound driven vehicle by Ronald L. Thornburg, age 66, of Pitsburg. Hurst 's vehicle overturned after the initial impact causing the vehicle to come to rest on it's top.
Two adults and three children from the Hurst vehicle were transported to Wayne Hospital . A child was later airlifted by Careflight to Dayton Children's Hospital. Thornburg was also taken to Wayne Hospital for treatment. This accident remains under investigation.
