Wii Fun In Darke

The residents at Brethern Retirement Community love Wii Bowling and participating in Wii Bowling Tournaments-- with eachother and the staff (no serious competition there!) and as a part of a traveling Wii Bowling Tournament with other retirement homes.

When Brethern Retirement Community (BRC) learned that the Community Action Partnership (CAP) expressed a wish to aquire the equipment for the use of the older adults in Darke County who visit their center, BRC offered their knowledge in fundraising to help CAP brainstorm for a way to generate the necessary funds and pledged BRC's support for this innovative project from concept to completion. John Warner, Brethern Retirement Community's President and CEO stated: "CAP is a wonderful organization that provides many necessary services for the people in Darke County. Brethern Retirement Community also serves older adults in Darke County and this is a wonderful way for us to collaborate with them to help seniors in our community. Once their Wii Project is completed, I'm sure our residens would enjoy challenging their Wii Players in a bowling tournament."

Jerry Waugh, a Xenia resident with a large heart and no connection to Darke County, got wind of this plan in the works and generously provided the 47 inch flat-screen TV to jump-start the project. He grew up in Southern Ohio, in a rural community and has a fondness for older adults and agricultural communities. Mr. Waugh said he was very happy to be able to play a part in fulfilling this wish and expressed how good it felt to be able to do something to help older adults who spent their lives taking care of others.

The remainder of the funds will be raised with the help form teenages in Darke County. The campaign, "Wii Fun in the Darke" will be teenagers working together using social media to create awareness and seek donations on behlaf of CAP, a 501 (c)3 organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.

Morgan Light, a senior at Arcanum High School and a teen volunteer for CAP, will lead this project under CAP's supervision and with support from BRC. An informational meeting to kick-off this campaign will be held Thursday, July 8 at 6:30 pm in the Brick Room at the Brethern Retirement Community, located in Greenville, Ohio. All teens are invited to participate.
