KARLH MCCALLISTER MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT RAISES $11,000

The first Karlh McCallister Memorial Golf Tournament raised about $11,000 for the Darke County College Access Program.

“This was a great tribute to Karlh, one of the people responsible for founding DCCAP,” said Beth Sears, DCCAP executive director. The Darke County College Access Program helps students go to college through one-on-one mentoring, educational programs and scholarships.

Seventy-two golfers participated in the golf tournament at the Greenville Golf Course on Saturday, July 24.
“This was a wonderful turnout for a first-time event considering the time of year and the economy,” said Mike Barker, who helped organize this year’s event.

“The golfers had a lot of fun playing the course and enjoyed the fantastic prizes that were provided by the golf course or donated by numerous vendors and friends of the McCallister family,” he continued. “Again we want to thank all of the businesses, community and family members who supported this special day and event.”

Winners of the golf tournament included the Hansbarger Home Solutions team (Mike Barker, Christopher Fourman, Kendall Hemer and Al Pontius) who won the gross division; first place net; Buchy Foods (Jim Buchy, Kevin Kerg, Ron Kerg and Jessica Kerg), 2nd place net; Financial Achievement Services (Dan Franz, Matt Arnold, Jim Hunt and Scott Garrison), 3rd place net; Scott Rudnick, Bill LaFramboise, Mark Davis and Matt Sullivan. The mixed division winners were Tracy Haines, Dawn Hissong, Millie Stammen, Rob Haines. There were also skill contests, holes in one sponsored by Dave Knapp Ford, and more.

The raffle and auction featured numerous prizes, including an Electrolux Wine Cooler, KitchenAid mixer, Toshiba television set, Samsung DVD, gift certificates from the Versailles Inn and CJ High Marks, golf rounds from GCC, White Springs, SWVGC, and sports tickets for Colts, Bengals, and Reds games.

Some of the raffle prize winners included wine cooler, Kevin Chaulk; KitchenAid mixer, Ted Nealeigh; DVD player, Ray Lear; and Reds tickets, Wayne Deschambeau.

“This is the kind of day that Karlh would have been really pleased to see with so many people coming together to support a good cause and have fun,” Barker said.

“So often there are talented students who’d like to go to college, but just need some extra help to get there,” Sears said. “DCCAP tries to provide that extra help.”

During the previous school year, DCCAP mentors worked with about 50 students. In addition, DCCAP provided informational material to the parents of all Greenville and Ansonia high school juniors and seniors, gave presentations to high school students, and offered programs about college admissions and financial aid. DCCAP currently serves students in the Greenville and Ansonia High Schools and recently awarded 12 scholarships to graduates from these schools.

“This tournament raised much needed funds so that we can continue to have an impact on high school and college students in Darke County,” Sears said. “Thanks to all of the businesses and individuals who made this tournament possible and offered their support.”
