A Walk through Time: 2010

Have you ever wondered what downtown Versailles was like 50 or 100 years ago? The Versailles Area Historical Society is thinking that the answer to this question is a resounding YES!

So on Sunday afternoon November 7th the Society will offer our first “A Walk through Time… History Walk”. The idea came from all the Elementary school classes who take tours of our town each year to get a peek at the past. Lifelong Versailles resident and history buff, Jack Turpen will guide small groups through downtown sharing stories of what Versailles was like over a century ago. While the walk is mostly outdoors you will be invited inside the old Opera House/Movie Theatre and the Masonic Temple, so some stairs are required. Lite refreshments and a time for questions and answers will be held at the conclusion in the Masonic dining room, as guests of the Versailles Masonic Lodge will serve as our hosts.

Two touring groups will be available the first beginning at 1:00 p.m. and group two begins at 3:00 p.m. All tours begin from the Village Council Room and groups are asked to arrive fifteen minutes before departure. We will tour rain or shine, so dress appropriately. Only twenty five guests per tour group will be permitted and the cost is only a $5.00 donation each. Tickets are available by calling Deb Pohl at 526-4108. Remember space is limited, so reserve your spot early!
