The Andersons Support Arts Programming For Children

 The Andersons Inc. have once again donated funds to Darke County Center for the Arts (DCCA) sponsoring the 2010-2011 Family Theater Series as well as Arts In Education programming. According to DCCA Executive Director Julie Strait, “Statistics show that communities that provide a variety of creative outlets and cultural experiences nurture a greater satisfaction with overall quality of life among their citizens.” “We are so pleased that The Andersons value and support the Arts for children and families; their sponsorship helps enhance the quality of life in our community,” she concluded.

Family Theater Series presents creativity inspiring performances for young children and their families. The 2010/11 season begins this Sunday, November 14, 2010 with ArtsPower’s delightful and touching musical retelling of The Rainbow Fish, based on Marcus Pfister’s beloved book that teaches children the value of friendship. Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia will introduce youngsters to a poetic mouse, a tiny fish and a lovable inch-worm in their unique retelling of Leo Lionni’s treasured tales of Frederick, Swimmy, and Inch By Inch on January 23, 2011. Young and old alike will experience a World Of Wonder when Leland Faulkner introduces the amazing lost art of shadowgraphs as well as classical magic from the Far East on March 13, 2011. All performances are at St. Clair Memorial Hall in Greenville. Tickets are $5 each, or purchase all three shows for just $12.

Arts In Education has already taken Lyle Cogen’s Sticks & Stones program to all Greenville City and Darke County students in grades K-3, helping students meet the challenges of bullying in their schools. Concert pianist Alpin Hong will present his Movies to Games, Classically Trained, workshop for Jr. High school students on February 3 & 4, 2011. Theatrical poet Allan Wolf encourages high school students to discover the transforming power of language with Got Rhyme? on February 15-18, 2011. Arts In Education ends the season with Leland Faulkner traveling to grades 4-6 with his World Of Wonders program on March 7-11, 2011.
