Marvin Lewis is approaching uncharted territory in futility

Marvin Lewis is in his eighth season as head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. In those eight seasons, Lewis has a record of 58-63-1 and has not won a playoff game.

Since the AFL/NFL merger, there have been only two coaches retained by a team for eight years, while having a losing record and winning no playoff games. The other coach is Hall-of-Famer Paul Brown, who founded the Bengals in 1968 and finished his Bengal career one game under .500 (overcoming a 7-20-1 record in the Bengals' first two seasons).

Record futility: Marvin Lewis. The Bengals are currently 2-6. Why does he still have a job?

  1. Futility was David Shula, and Bruce Coslet, and Dick LeBeau.
After the lost 90's Marvin is a shoo-in for the Bengals HOF by virtue of being a 500 coach.

  2. Dear Bengals,

If you would like a chance to get to the playoffs, do like Dallas did and cut the cord. Get Lewis out of there! He is ineffective! The only reason you came back as strong as you did on Monday was because the team pumped themselves up! The didn't want to get humiliated!

    Sincerely,

    A Steelers Fan

  4. Time to blow up the Bengals. keep Palmer and draft a new qb. TO is gone anyway, I think he is auditioning for a new job now. Chad johnson should be let go. The O line is terrible at pass blocking. Hire real scouts, the Bengals have the smallest scouting dept in the league. The future looked so bright for the bengals just a couple of years ago but it has turned out to be very disappointing. Which is fine with me as I am not a Bengal fan.
