ANSONIA WALL OF FAME TO INDUCT NEW MEMBERS

On Saturday, February 12 the Ansonia Athletic Wall of Fame committee will induct two new members. Jim VanDeGrift, class of 1957 will be recognized for his athletic accomplishments in basketball, baseball, football and track. A partial listing of his honors include; Basketball years 9, 10, 11, 12; Baseball 10, 11, 12; Football years 9, 10, 11, 12; Team Co-Captain 12; Track 12. While earning 9 of a possible 12 letters in the sports he participated in, Jim also participated in FFA for 3 years while serving as a FFA Officer for 2 years and was also a member of the FFA County, District and State Judging Teams. Jim was also a Class Officer while participating in Chorus, Student Council, Annual Staff, Varsity "A" Club and the Athletic Board. Jim stated "my life has been blessed with wonderful memories of teachers, coaches, classmates and athletic teammates during my high school career as a Tiger at 'Ansonia High School". Jim has been married 49 years to Rosie and they have 3 children and 10 grandchildren.

Kent Shade, class of 1961 will be recognized for his athletic accomplishments in basketball, baseball, cross country and football. A partial listing of his honors include; Basketball lettermen years 9, 10, 11, 12; Baseball letterman 9, 10, 11; Football lettermen years 9, 10, 11; Cross Country letterman year 12. While earning 11 of a possible 16 letters in sports, Kent also participated in Latin Club for 3 years; Varsity "A" Club for 3 years; was involved in the Class Play as a Junior; served on the Annual Staff as a Senior and was also involved in Student Council and the Scholarship Team. Kent excelled in the sport of baseball and was involved with the Pittsburg Pirates Farm Club after graduation. Kent has 2 children and 1 grandchild. The ceremony will take place at halftime of the home varsity basketball game with Versailles.
