After winning a nailbiter to open conference play in the GWOC, Greenville fell to Butler 4-1 on Wednesday night to bring their record to 2-5 and even at 1-1 in the conference.
Senior Lukus Krueger pitched an impressive game for the Wave, going the distance while only allowing 4 hits and 3 earned runs. The Green Wave offense continued their struggles at the plate, collecting 3 hits and striking out 12 times for the second consecutive game.
The Aviators struck first in the 2nd inning after a misplayed ball in left center by the Wave. After a walk, consecutive doubles by Butler Pitcher Kyle Fain and Catcher Pete Yorgen plated their first 3 runs.
Greenville attempted a rally in the 5th when Junior SS John Edwards singled, stole second and scored on a Matt Orth single down the right field line, but a great play at 3rd base on the next batter would halt the rally as quickly as it started.
Greenville will host St. Henry at GTI Field Thursday night at 5:00.
