Darke County Humane Society to Host an Auction and Buffet Dinner on Friday (May 13)

The Darke County Humane Society is celebrating their 58th year in existence with a FUND-RAISING AUCTION and Buffet Dinner on Friday May 13, 2011. Scheduled to appear for an informative and exciting interview is Darke County’s newest celebrity, NFL place kicker SHAUN SUISHAM, fresh from this season’s Super Bowl as a Pittsburgh Steeler!

Shaun, who himself rescued a Shelter dog, is excited to speak at this event, barring any conflicts with his NFL obligations (if the NFL lockout should end). The cost of the event is only $10 which includes the cost of dinner and a glass a fine wine from The Winery of Versailles! Dinner begins at 5:00pm, followed by our speaker at 6:00, then the live and silent auction. The event will be held at the PAWS Bingo Hall, 848 Martin Street in Greenville, Ohio. Rich Edwards will be our volunteer auctioneer. Advanced tickets are available at PAWS or tickets can be purchased at the door.

The Dinner / Auction is one of the primary fund raisers of the year for DCHS. There is always plenty of fun and bargains! An auction highlight includes 4 “HOPPER PASSES” for Walt Disney World Theme Parks – a $525 value ! This year DCHS has lots of great sports items and it will be exciting to see which team’s fans will show the most enthusiasm! This year fans will compete for genuine autographed sports items including: items donated by Steeler Shaun Suisham; OSU Buckeye’s football signed by Jim Tressel; Bengals football signed by Coach Marvin Lewis and a New England Patriots football signed by Greenville’s own Matt Light! Other sports items include a signed ball and cap from Versailles star pitcher Craig Stammen (Washington Nationals) and an awesome autographed NASCAR shirt from TONY STEWART ! There will also be tickets to the REDS and other sporting events. The auction will also feature numerous items and gift certificates from local businesses and restaurants, a large chest freezer, jewelry, designer handbags, collectible bears and dolls, signed Fenton glassware, art work, overnight gambling trip, children’s playthings, LONGABERGER Baskets, Precious Moments figurines, decorative items and items for the home and garage. There will truly be something for everybody, and it benefits a great cause!

Here is some info about DCHS. DCHS operates the no kill shelter in the area. DCHS is a NON-PROFIT organization which operates without Government or tax assistance. Operating costs are soaring, as is the need for space for homeless animals, as the economy worsens. Besides operating the Shelter, DCHS also assists the community in other ways including: a low cost vaccination clinic: a low cost neutering program; Humane Officers who act on reports of neglect, abuse or injury to animals; offer major support to a program that offers pet food donations to pet owners in financial crisis; a new program to aid in horse aid and rescue ; and aid to the area Domestic Violence Shelter and abuse victims by offering shelter to their pets while in crisis. DCHS also hopes to expand their program to spay / neuter the stray and feral cat population. The mission of DCHS is to “instill humane principles and enforce laws for the prevention of cruelty, especially to children and animals, through repetitious knowledge and awareness.”
