JoAnne has been an inspiration to many throughout the years. She has been a caregiver most of her life, whether it be with her family, the children in her daycare or cancer patients needing support. She has helped so many people going through cancer she lost count of the numbers years ago. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer the summer of 1994, followed by another diagnosis in 1995. JoAnne became involved with ACS(American Cancer Society) in 1997 by attending and supporting the Relay for Life in Montgomery County. Further involvement was with the ACS program Reach for Recovery. She was on the first Darke County Relay for Life committee in 2004. Knowing the importance of Relay and the money it raises for ACS, she captained her own team, The Jolly Hot Tamales. Then in 2008 she faced another diagnosis of lung cancer. She was at Relay that year, even more determined to raise money for a cure. Once again she has been diagnosed with lung cancer. She is presently going through chemo treatments and will be facing the removal of her right lung. To all those who know her or know someone she has helped, please come out and show your support. All proceeds from the benefit will be given to JoAnne and her husband, Kevin.
