America's Big Band, the United States Army Field Band's Jazz Ambassadors, will perform at Greenville City Park in the Marling Band Shell on Friday, June 24 at 7 p.m. According to Darke County Center for the Arts Artistic Director Keith Rawlins, this 19-member component of the Washington, D.C.- based Army Field Band has appeared throughout the world, earning great acclaim at home and abroad. “This premier touring musical representative for the United States Army also represents some of the finest musical talent in America,” Rawlins explained. “DCCA is very proud to sponsor this free concert, and couldn't be more excited to be hosting the return of this versatile, inspiring, and very popular group to our community,” he said.

Adding to the excitement, three Greenville High School students have been chosen to perform with the Jazz Ambassadors; trumpeter Claire Sherman, sax player Peter Clark, and trombonist Trevor Fulton will share their skills with the group and their audience. “Intending to play a significant role in the future of America's youth, the Army Field Band includes music education in their mission,” Rawlins stated. “This performance opportunity will give our talented young local musicians wonderful experience, as well as memories to last a lifetime,” he went on.

In addition to 5 saxophone players, 5 trumpeters, and 4 trombonists, the band's roster includes guitar, bass, drums, piano, and a vocalist. Concerts by the Jazz Ambassadors are designed to entertain audiences of all kinds; their diverse repertoire includes big band swing, contemporary popular tunes, American standards, Dixieland, Latin, and patriotic selections.

The Jazz Ambassadors began in 1969, carrying their message of patriotism and goodwill to audiences worldwide. The Jazz Ambassadors Summer Tour will take them throughout Ohio with stops in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Indiana. All concerts are presented on an admission-free basis as a public service. In case of rain, the June 24 concert will be moved to Henry St. Clair Memorial Hall on West Fourth Street. For more information, contact DCCA at or 937-547-0908.
