Open thread: Weinergate

Earlier today, New York Congressman Anthony Weiner resigned following his three-week-long Twitter sexting scandal.

A lot of questions have been raised ... Should Weiner have resigned? Did the media overreact? If Weiner's actions were immoral, but not illegal, should he have lost his job? What was he thinking? Why the dancing hot dog?

Surely the readers of Darke Journal have some answers? Comments? Funny double entendres? C'mon, the story's over and this is your last chance.

  3. For a smart man, Weiner is incredibly stupid. We can debate what should be done, but we all know that when something like this happens it will end in resignation or worse.

Is it something about the personality types that make up people who desire and excel at being politicians that makes them do reckless behavior like this? I'm just simple man, but i have no desire to send illicit photos of myself to anyone.

Also, Weiner is going to have to straighten himself out after making this hard decision. Does this make Weiner crooked? I don't know. I think it just makes him flawed. Part of his job is to not be a distraction. With stuff like this, people couldn't help but stare at Weiner and see what he does. He'll never finish anything if he is constantly measured by this.

  5. the guy was a tool - and I'm glad he's gone. but it's wild to think that if the guy just hit the right key on his blackberry none of this would have ever happened.

  6. Power can take the strongest man or woman down. I think everyone who runs for political office starts off with the best of intentions. When your surrounded by people who are constantly telling you that you are the best thing since ice-cream you start to believe them!

Even after resigning, Weiner continues to screw taxpayers with pension and benefits over one million dollars.

I have to wonder why a man named Weiner was caught showing his weiner on Twitter. AND, he talked to former President Clinton for advice. Only in America.

  9. I read that Weiner and US AG Eric Holder is teaming up for the presidential primary in 2012. It will be the Weiner/Holder 2012 ticket.
