Rossburg Ice Cream Social to be Held on June 4th

The 54th Annual Rossburg Firemen’s Ice Cream Social will be held this Saturday, June 4th. Serving of our famous tasty BBQ Chicken and homemade ice cream will start at 4 pm. So much planning has gone into this year’s event.

President Dann Widener stated that like any other event, planning is year round. President Widener, who assumed the duties upon the death of the President of the board and Capitan of the Fire Department, Jack Stewart in 2008; also stated the hardest part was trying to fill Jack’s shoes. “Jack kept things running smoothly and spear headed any glitches before anyone knew there was a problem. I am still learning”, stated Widener.

This year the Social will again have “homemade” ice cream. Some of the flavors being offered will be Vanilla, Strawberry, Chocolate, Raspberry, Mint Chocolate Chip, Butter Pecan and Peanut Butter. Chief Doug Cothran stated that the flavors that go quickly are Mint Chocolate Chip, Butter Pecan and Peanut Butter. Chief Cothran stated, “The Social went back to homemade ice cream back in 2004 and have offered numerous flavors throughout the years, some hits and a few failures”.

This year’s event will offer a Kiddie Tractor Pull (sign up at 3 pm with Pulls starting at 4 pm), Bingo starting at 6 pm, Dessert Wheel, Backseat Driver Competition (following the Kiddie Tractor Pull), Kids Games, Raffle (over $1000 in cash prizes) and live entertainment. According to Board Member Darrin Brumbaugh, the entertainment will be provided by “Headin’ West Band”. “They are a great band and provide a lot of variety, so everyone will enjoy them” stated Brumbaugh. One item that is provided at the Social is the now Famous Pie Auction. “Everyone is in agreement that Pie Auction is a hit” stated President Widener. “It was first presented 3 years ago by the Auxiliary and has grown into this huge event that surprised even me”, stated Chief Cothran. The pies will be auctioned off at 5, 6 & 7 pm by our talented Auctioneers, Dann Widener and Rod Gibson (past Rossburg FF). In closing, both President Widener and Chief Cothran want to thank everyone for being so supportive of the Rossburg Fire Department. “Without our community and wonderful supporters, we would not be where we are today.”
