GCPD Follow Up on Yesterday's Shooting Victim

On Thursday, July 7, 2011 at approximately 11:59 a.m. the Greenville Police Department received a call from Wayne Hospital in reference to a mall subject being admitted for gunshot wounds to his hand and leg. The police responded to Wayne Hospital and began an investigation into the shooting.

The victim has been identified as Ty E. Howell, (18 y.o.a.) of 315 N. Gray Ave. Greenville, Oh. Detectives have determined the victim's injuries were self inflicted and were the result of an accidental discharge of a firearm the victim was improperly handling. The victim was sitting in a parked vehicle at 113 Euclid Av. when the discharge occurred.

The victim has been released from the hospital, and the case is still under investigation.

  2. yesterday, many people were using this story to prove that we should not have any cuts with GPD. I don't think it would have made a diff in this case. Maybe if the current officers would not talk on their cell phones while they drive around, they would be able to prevent crimes instead of responding to crimes that have already happened.

  4. First annonymous, if you see a police officer or deputy on a cell phone, it is usually because they are using the two way capability of Sprint/Nextel so that you can't hear what they are saying on your scanner. If you hear dispatch say, "give me a two way", that's what they are doing. Things aren't always as they appear.

  6. So badge, using the two way capability so I can't hear what they are saying is a good enough reason to be unsafe??? Texting and talking on cell phones and two waying while driving is not safe, I don't care who you are or why you are.

  7. There is no reason to have ploice driving around making personal calls on cell phones. To say they have to use them for busines they cannot hear over the radio is simply untrue. I have personal experience with one of the policemen and have been told as much. When will people stop making excuses for public employees?

  9. I assume you're a child judging by the use of all caps and I also assume you are from a government run school judging by your grammar and punctuation. Now get off of here and stop spreading your nonsense.

  10. @ Hard Truth, you are an idiot. @ child of cop, ignore the idiot. Most likely Hard Truth does not have a clue what it is like to be a family member of a cop or possibly anything about being a law abiding citizen. Obviously very uncouth.

  11. So far, judging by you two, you're both poor examples if you are trying to point out family members of officers.
