DCP helps YMCA Summer Camp!

The Darke County Parks Naturalists assisted with the YMCA summer day camp in August after a last minute change-of-plans with the YMCA’s original plans. The campers from the YMCA travelled out to Shawnee Prairie Preserve to learn about all about plants. The program started off by talking about the many different parts of a plant and playing a game of “Plant Part Charades.” Campers were then broken into groups and took a long hike through the woods to talk about different plants, their benefits and how people use plants today and in the past. Campers returned to the Nature Center and learned how to “Build a Plant” as they were transformed into different parts of a plant. The last part of the trip was spent discovering all of the many displays that the Nature Center has to offer. For more information on how your group can utilize the Darke County Parks Nature Center visit, our website at www.darkecountyparks.org or call at 937.548.0165.
