Free Crafts at Prairie Days!

Hey Kids! Would you like to try to live as a pioneer child? It may not be as easy as you think! Join us at Shawnee Prairie Preserve for Prairie Days under the Craft Tent to try it out. Prairie Days is a FREE Family Event and will be held Saturday, September 24th, 10am-4pm and Sunday, September 25th, 12pm-4pm.

During this weekend event, there will be candles to dip and apple cider to press. Make a tin can lantern at the tin-smithing station to light your way on a dark night. Children can make their own hats and bonnets to transport them back in time and look like a real pioneer. Children can also learn a few new life-skills while making their rope to play games with or make a popular toy called a buzz saw, just like pioneer children! There will also be several pioneer games and competitions such as a three-legged race, pie-eating and a seed spitting contest! Since bathing was few and far between, you can also make a tussy mussy from herbs with a beautiful fragrance to take home. Check out Prairie Days at the Shawnee Prairie Preserve to see if you can live like a pioneer.

Prairie Days has something for everyone, from games and crafts for the children to demonstrations and observations for the adults… and yes, there are even games for the adults too!
