FS4JK to Share the Message of Farm Safety During the Fair

Hi, Ho, come to the fair! The Darke County Chapter of Farm Safety 4 Just Kids will again have a tent located south of the Hog Barn (across from the pony ride) at the fair this year. The theme for this year’s fair will be “Pull Some Strings for John”, honoring John Warner, 16 year old member of the Franklin-Monroe FFA who was killed in a farm accident last year. John’s younger brother, A.J., will be displaying his “giant ball” of strings cut from sweatshirts and donated to FS4JK. John was killed when his sweatshirt drawstring became entangled in a PTO shaft. A.J. will be at the tent at various times throughout the fair. Come and let him tell you how important it is to be careful around farm machinery. In addition, the FM FFA will be showing how to stay safe around gears. This year, the FS4JK’s chapter will focus on PTO Safety, Swimming Pool Safety, Gun Safety, and ATV Safety. There will be a large farm display depicting the hazards that exist on the farm. The children are asked to identify the hazardous areas and then will be presented with a prize. There will also be daily drawings for prizes, so please do stop in and make your children more aware of safety on the farm!
