Guest Post from Cherie Frost - The Swinging Bridge

The Swinging Bridge is a famous local landmark in the Greenville City Park. The bridge creates a safe walkway that is fun to cross the Greenville Creek. The seenic view from the swinging bridge is spectacular. Over the years the swinging bridge has been a favorite to many young and old. The bridge support cables are run through the stones at each end of the bridge. Over time large cracks have form in the mortar of the stone walls. Recently, stones had fallen from the top corner of one of the stone walls to the surface below.

  2. Maybe we should say something to City Council at the next meeting ?! I am sure that bridge goes through inspection every year.

  3. The bridge is in such hazardous conditions and the Breast Cancer 5k just ran over 600 people across it? I'd think the bridge is more important to fix than the lagoons.

  4. As a current park board member, we had an inspection completed in March of this year. There were no immediate concerns and the bridge is in fair to good condition. You can contact the Parks Office if you need any further information. Also Mr. T, the Park is under the Park Board of DIrectors that only reports to council for the financial budget. ALso 4:17, the lagoons were completed from local grant money. Thanks Kathy Beam

  5. Much ado about nothing. A little mortar and an hour or so is all it needs.

  6. This is not nearly as serious as some of the buildings downtown that have not been maintained.
