The sixth annual running of Mandy’s Sunshine 5K Run/Walk was held in the Greenville city park on Saturday, September 17, 2011. Nearly 400 runners, 2 mile walkers and kid fun runners participated in the event this year. The race was organized by family and friends of Mandy Green to raise money for the Mandy Green Class of 2013 Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Hope Foundation. This fund will provide scholarships to graduating seniors in the Greenville High School Class of 2013. This is the year Mandy would have graduated from high school. Mandy passed away on May 10, 2005 after a four and a half year battle with Wilm’s Tumor, a rare childhood cancer. She was ten years old at the time of her death.
Mandy’s classmates were very supportive and protective of her during her struggle with cancer through the years. The fund was created to reflect and pay back the loving support Mandy received from her classmates and friends.
Mandy lived well, had many friends, loved much and laughed often. The race committee wants to extend our sincere appreciation for making this year’s event a tremendous success. Thank you for joining us in celebration and honor of Mandy’s life. Results of the race can be found at mandysfunrun.org.
