“To Everything There is a Season”… Ecclesiastes 3: would be an excellent way to describe what our Chapter, with the help of Mark Reedy, one of our area's Thrivent Advisors is offering this autumn.
A Chautauqua (sh?-taw-kw?) was an adult education movement in the United States that was very popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Chautauqua assemblies expanded and spread throughout rural America until the mid-1920s. The Chautauqua brought entertainment and culture for the whole community, with speakers, teachers, musicians, entertainers, preachers and specialists of the day. Former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt was quoted as saying that Chautauqua is "the most American thing in America."
Our Thrivent Chautauqua will be held once a month in three locations throughout the Miami, Darke, Shelby County areas of our chapter. Each themed event will include music, a guest speaker for a short talk on the topic, some educational highlight and of course food! Next Thursday evening September 29, at 6:00 p.m. we will experience the adventure of the days that the Native Americans roamed this land. These rich hunting fields provided many tribes with food for generations. We invite you to join us for a truly unique event at Buffalo Jack’s in Covington, Ohio for the kick off to our season. A guest speaker will be giving an informative talk on the theme “Saving the Farm”.
Special American music will be provided by noted local performer "Simply Joseph" followed with a delicious buffet. This free event, yes free, only requires your R.S.V.P. to Mark Reedy at the Piqua Thrivent office at 937-778-1353 by September 23rd. This event will be especially interesting to our area family farmers and you do not have to be a Thrivent member to attend.
