FINAL COUNT DOWN TO WHIRPOOL CENTENNIAL

100 DAYS OF DARKE CO. BLOOD DRIVES ADDS GIFT OF LIFE TO CELEBRATION

Darke Co. Ohio— It’s easy to take for granted the luxury of a refrigerator or washing machine, or the lifeline of a safe and sufficient blood supply. Whirlpool Corporation, Darke County’s biggest employer, will mark the company’s 100th anniversary Friday, November 11th and Community Blood Center (CBC) is partnering in the celebration with the completion of the successful “100 Days of Giving and Saving Lives” blood drive campaign.

The “Darke County Days” blood drives began August 2 and continued through the 100 days leading up to the Whirlpool Centennial. The campaign was a remarkable success. By Thursday, November 10 CBC will have completed 45 community, school and business blood drives during the 100 days with more than 2,000 registrations to donate blood, including 150 first-time donors.

The biggest drive of the campaign was the Versailles Poultry Days Committee drive on September 19, followed closely by the Darke Co. OSU Alumni Club drive on November 8.

Everyone who registered to donate during “Darke County Days” was automatically entered into a drawing to win a new Whirlpool washer and dryer set, or one of eight KitchenAid small appliances.

“Whirlpool is very excited to partner with our local Community Blood Center to celebrate Whirlpool’s 100th year through supporting such an important local drive,” said Plant Leader Bill Good of the Greenville division. “The communities within Darke County are vital to the success of Whirlpool, Greenville and this is a great opportunity for us to give back to the communities that have supported us for many years.”
The Centennial Celebration at the Greenville plant will take place Friday, November 11. Whirlpool has been manufacturing KitchenAid stand mixers in Greenville since 1986 and has approximately 900 employees.

Blood donation requirements: Donors are required to provide a photo ID that includes their full name. Past CBC donors are also asked to bring their CBC donor ID card. Donors must be at least 16 years of age (16 years old with parental consent: form available at www.givingblood.org or at CBC branch & blood drive locations), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and be in good physical health. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) changes blood donor eligibility guidelines periodically. Individuals with eligibility questions are invited to email canidonate@cbccts.org or call 1(800)388-GIVE. Make an appointment at www.DonorTime.com.
