BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS HOSTS ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY

Little Brothers and Sisters pose with Santa and Mrs. Claus after the agency Shelby County Christmas Party held Saturday, December 3 at Bel-Mar Lanes. The stocking caps were hand knit and donated to the agency for the children.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Shelby & Darke County held its annual Christmas Party on Saturday, December 3rd at Bel-Mar Lanes bowling alley in Sidney. Approximately 85 people, comprised of community volunteer mentors, Littles, BBBS board members and staff, were in attendance this year. After the excitement of bowling, a pizza party was held, with prizes being awarded for trivia questions. The festivities concluded with a visit from Santa, who handed out presents to the Littles.

Volunteers were encouraged to bring a prospective volunteer mentor to the party. Those volunteers were then assigned to help an unmatched Little for the afternoon. Kohl’s Cares sent a team of volunteers to assist at the party.

Currently there are 77 community volunteer mentors and 65 high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors who volunteer with the school-based Big Buddies Program at Longfellow, and Whittier elementary schools. Twenty-four children in Shelby County are waiting to be matched with a volunteer mentor.

The Bowl For Kids’ Sake fundraiser will be held Friday and Sunday, March 2 and 4, 2012, at Bel-Mar Lanes in Sidney and McBo’s Lanes in Versailles.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Shelby & Darke County is a non-profit United Way member, social service agency. If you would like more information on entering your child in the program or on becoming an active volunteer, please call 492-7611 or 547-9622.
