BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS HOSTS ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY

Little Brother Christopher Goode shares his wish list with Santa. Goode is the son of Tami Bracy, of Greenville. Goode’s Big Sister is Megan Hilderbrand, also of Greenville.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Shelby & Darke County held its annual Christmas Party on Sunday, December 11th at The New Treaty Lanes bowling alley in Greenville.

Approximately 45 people, comprised of community volunteer mentors, Littles, BBBS board members and staff, were in attendance this year. After the excitement of bowling, a pizza party was held. The New Treaty Lanes owners, Jack and Paula Alexander donated pizza and pop for the event. Children enjoyed a game of trivia and the prizes awarded. The festivities concluded with a visit from Santa, who handed out presents to the Littles.

Volunteers were encouraged to bring a prospective volunteer mentor to the party. Those volunteers were then assigned to help an unmatched Little for the afternoon. Five children in Darke County are waiting to be matched with a volunteer mentor.

Currently there are 31 community volunteer mentors and 59 high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors who volunteer with the school-based Big Buddies Program at Versailles, and Greenville’s Woodland elementary schools.

The Bowl For Kids’ Sake fundraiser will be held Friday and Sunday, March 2 & 4, 2012, at Bel-Mar Lanes in Sidney and McBo’s Lanes in Versailles.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Shelby & Darke County is a non-profit United Way member, social service agency. If you would like more information on entering your child in the program or on becoming an active volunteer, please call 492-7611 or 547-9622.
