SUCCESSFUL DAY FOR GREENVILLE CHEERLEADING AT GWOC COMPETITION

Greenville Cheerleading squads recently competed in the Greater Western Ohio Conference Cheerleading Competition and came home with a lot to cheer about.

The varsity squad took the first place trophy in the GWOC North Division, defeating squads from Sidney, Troy, Piqua, Vandalia-Butler and Trotwood. They placed 9th overall in the field of 18 squads. Varsity cheerleaders winning First Team, All-Conference individual awards were Jenna Dowler, Ashley Hanes, and Sydney Hunt. Second Team, All-Conference individual awards went to Tia Williamson and Ashley Mikesell. The JV squad placed 9th in the field of 18 squads. Amanda Campbell, who coaches both the varsity and jv squads, said “It was such an important day for the entire Greenville Cheerleading program. The varsity squad set a goal to place in the top three in our division and came out on top, leaving as GWOC North Champions! The GWOC cheerleading competition is one competition where the other cheerleading squads expect to easily defeat us because we are a smaller school, with not as many athletes. I’m so proud of our girls and the direction our program is heading.”

The junior high squad competed in the tumbling division and came home with a fourth place trophy. Eighth grader, Tessa Schatz, competed in the individual “jump off” competition, and finished in second place. Chasity Kwast is the coach of the junior high squad.

  1. Go Big Green! Congratulations to all of the cheerleaders on a job well done. Also to the varsity coach. It's great to see former GHS athletes come back home, coach, and be successful.

  3. Go Big Green? LOL we are talking cheerleaders here. It's cute that they can "compete" like this. I agree let's try them out and see if they can play basketball for the boys team. It could not be any worse.

  5. Dec 6 @ 9:36, obviously you are not aware of what "cheerleaders" do. You should check out a competition sometime. These young people (boys and girls) are dedicated athletes. The days of the thinking that cheerleaders are just a bunch of silly, frustrated little girl just waiting to get old enough to rock your world fantasy - is over. There are many who receive scholarships provided by major colleges. It is not just focused on the female athlete, it includes male athletes too.
