DCSO: SUSPECT IN CUSTODY CONFESSES TO NUMEROUS B&E’s IN 5 COUNTIES

On the afternoon of January 23, 2012 Detectives from Darke County traveled to Mercer County to interview Douglas N. Fonner, 27, Mendon, Ohio. Fonner was previously arrested by Mercer County Deputies in Mercer County in connection with a number of recent break-ins at grain elevators and other local businesses.

Darke and Mercer County Detectives together conducted an interview with Fonner. Fonner confessed that in the early morning hours of January 5, 2012 he broke into Birt’s Store and Mercer Landmark in New Weston, and Moody’s Auto Service in Ansonia. Fonner also confessed that on December 21, 2011 he broke into True Point Elevator in Osgood. All four businesses are located in northern Darke County, Ohio.

During the course of the interview, Fonner confessed to committing numerous break-ins to businesses throughout Auglaize, Darke, Mercer, Shelby and Van Wert counties beginning in November 2011.

Based on the information obtained during the investigations, multiple breaking and entering and theft charges will be filed through the Darke County Prosecutor’s Office.
