A New Year at the Library

Librarian Ed Cornell is seen helping a patron
renew her library card.
As we all welcome in the New Year, we look forward to implementing new plans and reaching new goals. Nowhere is this spirit more lively than at the Greenville Public Library! After many challenging years – moving out of and back into the building during construction then the budget cuts – the staff looks forward to a new year and a new era of expansion. The patrons too! They will be the happy recipients of the increase in materials and programs.

All of this is due to the community’s support in passing the five-year operating levy last November for which the Library is very grateful. The public expressed its appreciation for the Library’s mission and can now enjoy its offerings more fully. First on the list is the increase in hours open. Starting January 2nd: Monday through Thursday 9:00-8:00; Friday 9:00-6:00; Saturday 9:00-4:00.

Next will be an increase in programs, especially for adults and families. More news as these unfold. The ever-popular computer classes will continue with more advanced classes added later this year. Patrons will also see many new books and audio-visual materials on the shelves. Our budget cuts had reduced spending to a fraction of what it had been, thus a very limited number of items were available. A very exciting development will come by the end of February – ebooks for free download!

Such items as a security system, automatic computer sign-up, and upgraded computers will also be here soon. The Library will be going from just getting by to becoming a fully functioning modern library. That’s something our community deserves! The Library has never been used as much nor has been as busy as it is now. The Library invites everyone to stop in and get a free library card or renew their old one - and enjoy one of the greatest resources in the area.
