Adult Grief Education Class Offered

State of the Heart Hospice will offer an Adult Grief Education Class at the agency’s office, 1350 N. Broadway in Greenville from Monday, March 5 through Monday, March 26. The sessions are free and are from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. They are open to anyone who needs help dealing with grief, and there need be no association with hospice care.

“There are many facets of grief and loss and individuals often have special needs working through their grief,” stated Marlene Black, bereavement specialist who is the program coordinator. “With this in mind, we have scheduled the four week grief education class allowing the opportunity to explore the facets of grief.“

She added that the first night will be devoted to introductions and an overview of basic bereavement. The second night will be on spirituality and grief with one of the State of the Heart chaplains conducting the session. Black explained that the third night of the sessions will feature one of the agency’s music therapists who will discuss the value of music in healing in the journey through grief. On the final night, Kelley Hall, RN and Education Coordinator for State of the Heart, will explain the importance of caring for one’s physical self while grieving.

State of the Heart Hospice is a non-profit agency with offices in Greenville, Coldwater and Portland. The agency cares for patients and families in eastern Indiana and western Ohio who are confronting a life limiting illness. Bereavement support is an important part of the care provided families and patients.
