Tiger Bowlers defeat St. Marys, remain undefeated
The Versailles Boys Varsity Bowling team moved on to Week 14 action against the St. Marys Roughriders at Olympic Lanes in Van Wert on Saturday, February 4.Jordan Groff |
The Tigers headed into the baker games with a 189-pin lead over the Roughriders. "It's nice to have the lead going into the Baker games, so we cannot think this match is over. St. Mary's is a good team and anything can happen the next 5 Baker Games. " The momentum shifted to the Roughriders as the Tigers worked to adjust to the quickly-changing lane conditions. St. Marys defeated Versailles in the first four baker games with scores of 238 to 195, 181 to 173, 232 to 176, and 212 to 168. "That was probably the best 168 I have ever seen our kids bowl. We left 3 pocket splits and several corner pins all while the Roughriders had several key breaks during that game."
Going into the fifth baker game, the Tigers’ 189-pin lead had dwindled to 38 pins; however, the Tigers would not give up and fought to win the fifth baker game 189 to 155, thus winning the match by 72 pins. Versailles was led by Jordan Groff with a 250, Michael Davidson with a 240 and 219, Aaron Niekamp with a 211, Ben Didier with a 203, and Nathan Peters with a 201. With one match remaining in the season, this victory over the Roughriders brings the Tigers’ record to 14-0. For video highlights, please click here.
