On Friday, June 1st, 2012 at approximately 6:28 PM, Darke County Deputies, along with Pitsburg Fire Department, Arcanum Rescue, Arcanum Fire Department, Greenville Township Rescue, Gettysburg Rescue, and Gettysburg Fire Department was dispatched to a serious head on injury accident on State Route 49 near the intersection of Gettysburg Pitsburg Road.
Preliminary investigation revealed a 2003 Buick driven by Janice Filbrun of Union City was north bound on State Route 49 north of Gettysburg Pitsburg Road when the vehicle went left of center, striking a south bound 2009 Honda driven by Marilyn Smith of New Madison.
Janice Filbrun was extricated from the vehicle and later transported to Good Samaritan Hospital by Greenville Township Rescue. Janice Filbrun was pronounced dead by Good Samaritan Hospital. Marilyn Smith was transported to Miami Valley Hospital by Arcanum Rescue. Two other occupants were transported to Miami Valley Hospital by Gettysburg Rescue. A four occupant was taken to Childrens Hospital by Arcanum Rescue. The conditions of Marilyn Smith and her passengers are unknown at this time.
The Darke County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction team also responded to the scene for further investigation.
This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office
