FREE PARENTING SEMINAR

“Six Years Last Forever,” a parenting workshop for parents of young children, was presented at EUM Worship Center Cafe on Saturday, May 19. Three sessions covered the newborn's first two lessons, early lessons of gratitude and generosity learned through manners and consistent family routine, and helping the young child grieve.

The session on grieving was introduced as a memorial to Connie Flatter. Mrs. Flatter was a long-time teacher for EUM preschool. She passed away suddenly in February of this year, leaving behind grieving preschoolers and their parents besides her own family and church family. This effort to support the preschool parents generated significant discussion during the seminar and provided transferable tools to other difficult areas: divorce, step-families, etc.

The workshop was written and presented by Beverly Hughes, BA. “I have taught parenting skills through Children's Services, Juvenile Court, to pregnant teens through the schools, and now in churches. Families are more distracted and disjointed than ever before. Families do not need judgment and punishment as much as family advocates to model, encourage, and support them.”

Hughes will present the seminar, “Six Years Last Forever” again in September, 2012 at EUM Church. For more information, contact Janie Detling, Support Ministries Director at 937-548-3211.
