Darke County Court Updates from WHIOtv.com

Here's a few stories that WHIOtv.com has posted in the last day or two regarding court appearances by individuals for cases previously posted on DarkeJournal.com

Darke Co. man pleads in family assault cases

Justin Thomas
Justin Thomas, a 34 year old resident of North Star, pleaded guilty to charges of felonious assault with a deadly weapon, having weapons while under disability, and attempted abduction.

These were all in connection with 2 events, the first of which occurred in September of 2011 where he confronted a family member over a financial issue with a gun and threatened them. The second incident occurred in May of this year and culminated with Thomas firing a shotgun at a family member during an altercation.

Thomas will serve 4 years and 11 months in prison. The article also notes that none of the family members in either case wanted to prosecute Thomas on the charges.

Darke Co. mom, son arraigned on marijuana cultivating charges

A mother and son duo were arraigned on charges that stem from a drug bust near Arcanum in September. During the search, deputies discovered up to 250 marijuana plants, some as much as 10 feet tall.

Michele D. Colthar, 58, and William M. Colthar, Jr., 30, both entered pleas of not guilty to charges of one count of illegal cultivation of marijuana and one count each of possession of marijuana.

Robbery Suspect Arraigned

Julie Cockrell
Julie A. Cockrell, 46, of New Madison was arraigned in Darke County Common Pleas Court for allegedly biting a man and robbing him after he refused to lend her money.

Bond was set for Cockrell at $10,000 and, as of the report, is still in Darke County Jail.
