China Trade Issues underlie Local Business Problems - A Guest Post from Charles and Rebecca Reier

Had local business leaders been listening to CNBC Worldwide Exchange between 4:00 and 4:20 am this morning, they would have heard an extensive discussion of the problem of making free trade FAIR TRADE with China. They have missed the prime cause of their business frustrations and a weak economy. They blame partisan issues for the problems they face that are related directly to our two trillion dollar plus trade imbalance with China. This job destroying practice of Unfair Trade has destroyed our economy and magnified our budget deficits.

In their complaints, they are like a group of doctors that treat your fever, aches, pains and headache but fail to recognize your acute appendicitis. In a recent Advocate article on November 2, 2012, not one of the other entrepreneurs mentioned this issue. Unemployed workers run up the cost of government, healthcare, and social services. Unemployed people continue to live and consume and go to hospitals. The cost of that consumption must be absorbed by those that are employed, including small businesses like my own. Most of the unemployed are not government freeloaders. They would line up for the jobs that we sent to Chinese workers. Indeed, losing jobs to China is a big small business headache.

If socially responsible work rules are the cause of small business problems, Germany would be the world’s most colossal economic failure. Indeed German Chancellor Angela Merkle (leader of the Christian Democratic Party) works to lead the EU and the world toward economic prosperity. There is no evidence of a Tea Party in the successfully capitalistic Germany.
