Greenville Career Tech Center Medical Tech Prep Students Participate in Disaster Drill

Med Tech Prep Students at Greenville Career Tech Center recently participated in Wayne HealthCare's annual Disaster Drill.

Emily Powers, Med Tech Instructor stated, “The staff at the hospital were very appreciative of our participation and said the students were in character the whole time.”

During the annual disaster drill, students posed as patients for Wayne Healthcare. This year's disaster drill was a series of 5 explosions at Fifth Third Field. Each student was given a scenario with various levels of consciousness, vital signs and items for them to "complain about". Students had to act out the scenario to emergency room staff. The best part was that staff did not know the students were really going to act it out. Students learned how a disaster drill works and they also were able to view and learn about the changes a hospital goes through when a real life disaster takes place.

Students also got a close up view of the emergency room and the equipment. Additionally, students learned about patient prioritization, and how nurses and doctors determine who they see first in the emergency room.
