"IF YOU GIVE A MOUSE A COOKIE" OPENS FAMILY THEATRE SERIES

Darke County Center for the Arts will present Theatreworks USA's production of the popular children's book If You Give A Mouse A Cookie at Henry St. Clair Memorial Hall on Sunday December 2; the show begins at 2 p.m. Based on Laura Numeroff's classic book plus several other delightful stories, the show features music by an impressive roster of songwriters including some Tony-award winning composers. The story of a young boy who sees a charming litany of unforeseen circumstances unfold after he shares his cookie with a hungry mouse, If You Give A Mouse A Cookie introduces the concept of “cause and effect” to young audiences as they giggle at the ensuing chain reaction.

According to DCCA Artistic Director Keith Rawlins, Theatreworks USA plays a wide range of venues from large performing arts centers in major metropolitan areas to elementary school cafeterias in small communities across the nation. “Theatreworks has a distinguished history of not only providing young audiences with their first taste of theatre, but also giving young actors, writers, directors, and designers an early opportunity to work in their chosen field,” Rawlins explains.

DCCA's Family Theatre Series is sponsored by Dayton Power and Light Company Foundation, Second National Bank, Greenville Federal, Jean Louise Thieme Fund of the Hope Foundation, Edison Community College, The Andersons, Dr. Doug Gordon, Greenville Rotary Club, Jordan Insurance Agencies, Wayne Healthcare, Family Health, and Greenville Kiwanis Club. DCCA also receives funding from the Harry D. and Esther Stephens Memorial, Ketrow Foundation, and Lydia E. Schaurer Memorial Trust. Additionally, the Ohio Arts Council helps fund these programs with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans; this program is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Cookies provided by A & B Coffee and Cake will be available at the show.
