Volunteers, can be found everywhere throughout the museum on a daily basis. They are part of fundraising events and the Gathering committees. Garden club members contribute to many activities including the holiday open house and wreath auction. Educational docents direct visitors and explain the stories behind museum exhibits. Genealogy clerks answer questions and help with research. Receptionists greet visitors and answer phones. They all deserve recognition and appreciation.
On October 26, 2012 a volunteer appreciation luncheon was held in the Lowell Thomas meeting room at the museum. Executive director, Dr. Clay Johnson pointed out that it was volunteers that enabled 18,000 visitors to tour the museum throughout the year. He also expressed appreciation for the educational docents who hosted school tours for 1700 children from Darke, Miami, Preble, and Mercer counties in Ohio, and as far as way as Berne, Indiana.
Linda Newbauer, who also is a volunteer stated, “Volunteers make a difference! Volunteering is fun and we always have a need for more. I encouraged everyone to tell their friends and neighbors of the many volunteering opportunities that the museum offers. Many volunteers have told me that they actually get more out of it than they give!”
