Republicans can quickly and easily solve the Fiscal Cliff problem by taking the following small steps for
the benefit of mankind.
First, insist that China abide by FAIR trade rules and return jobs to deserving Americans. Bi-partisan
support already exists for this mandate. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney stated that he
would label China as a currency manipulator and an UNFAIR trade partner. On the other side of the aisle
the Senior Democratic Senator from New York, Charles Schumer, has for years railed against China for
UNFAIR trade practices without any support from either party. Late in his campaign Romney, the
Republican standard bearer, came out clearly in support of the Democrat’s position on trade with China.
American jobs repatriated from China would increase tax revenue and decrease the cost of social
services.
Second, regarding entitlement spending, repeal the pork-barrel/fraud -ridden Medicare Part D
Prescription Drug Benefit Plan that was written and enacted by Republicans during the Bush
Administration with no negotiating power for our government with “big pharma”. A compassionate,
austere prescription drug program could serve seniors well at a fraction of the cost to Medicare.
Third, convert Obamacare to the superior Romneycare-a plan designed by a man with real business
experience. The President would more than likely welcome the change in that it will free him for issues
regarding the depressed World economy and serious International problems.
Fourth, give some measure of respect to the wishes of billionaire Warren Buffet and other
million/billionaires who believe the very wealthy pay too little taxes. They are disturbed by the
maldistribution of wealth and the destruction of the middle class who are essential for new businesses
and a vibrant economy . There is also concern over the political power of billionaires whose fortunes
have come from building simple apps for the Internet (built with tax dollars), casino operators,
and others who have made fortunes through serendipitous events that have put them at the right place
at the right time. One billionaire would save over three hundred million dollars in taxes simply by
changing how he reports his income for the year 2012.This amount of money exceeds the sum of the
salaries of the Supreme Court Justices, members of Congress, and the President while leaving hundreds
of millions to lobby pet causes - many of which are not in the best interest of the country. Obviously
with that kind of wealth and billions parked on the sidelines, these people regard politicians as pawns
and peons.
Republicans, this is your hour. Your middle class supporters desperately need to see true leadership –
the kind of leadership that proves you are neither pawns nor peons. It is time for Republicans to earn
the right to take a “victory lap” with our President.
