NEW MADISON HOUSE FIRE RULED ARSON

On December 29, 2012 at approximately 8:31 pm, the Darke County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a house fire at 2116 State Route 121, just north of New Madison, Ohio. New Madison Fire Department along with several other mutual aid fire departments responded to the scene to extinguish the blaze. The Darke County Sheriff’s Office and State Fire Marshal’s Office were requested to investigate the fire.

On December 31, 2012, an Investigator from the State Fire Marshal’s Office determined that the fire had been intentionally set. A joint investigation between the Darke County Sheriff’s Office and the State Fire Marshal’s Office revealed the perpetrator of the arson fire. The case is being forwarded to the Darke County Prosecutor’s Office for review and consideration of criminal charges. Since criminal charges are pending and no arrest has been made at this time, the identity of the suspect is being withheld.

The house was vacant at the time of the fire and no injuries resulted from the fire. This incident remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
