The 14th annual L.D. Riegle Open Golf Tournament held last summer raised the largest amount ever for the outing which benefits State of the Heart Hospice. The amount raised last summer was $7,838, bringing the total raised over the past 14 years to $68,162.

“This was a major leap for us this year,” stated Mark Riegle, tournament director. “Our goal was to top the previous high set in 2006, and we did it. A big ‘thank you’ for all who participated and supported the tournament in any way. We hope to do even better next year.”

“State of the Heart greatly appreciates the support from the Riegle family,” said Ryan Gathard, Fund Development Director for State of the Heart. “The family members have successfully organized this memorable tournament for 14 years with proceeds benefiting our agency. It is a remarkable achievement and we are deeply grateful for the ongoing support of the Riegle family.”

The golf outing was established as a way of thanking the local non-profit agency for the care given to the family patriarch, L.D. Riegle who died in 1998 under the care of State of the Heart. Mr. Riegle was an avid golfer.

The L.D. Riegle Open Golf Tournament will be held again this year on Saturday, July 13 at White Springs Golf Course near Greenville. The event each year is coordinated by Mark, along with brothers Tim and Tom and sister Debbie, and their families. For information about next year’s tournament, call Mark at 937-459-6831 or email him at rieglma@whirlpool.com.
