CBC/VECTREN LEAD THE WAY SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE APRIL 20

5 HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS WILL EACH WIN $1,000 FOR COLLEGE TUITION

Area high school seniors have until April 20 to imagine a creative campaign for a campus blood drive and enter the idea into the Community Blood Center (CBC)/Vectren sponsored “Lead the Way Creative Scholarship” competition.

Lead the Way is a $5,000 creative scholarship program sponsored by CBC and Vectren to support young adults who will be our blood resource leaders of tomorrow. CBC and Vectren will judge all entries and award $1,000 scholarships to five high school seniors. To be eligible applicants must attend a high school that hosts a CBC blood drive. They must be graduating high school in the spring of 2013 and enrolling in college in the fall of 2013.

Competing for a Lead the Way scholarship is a creative challenge. Applicants are asked to imagine themselves as a leader of their high school blood drive. They must create a theme for the blood drive; explain why the theme will be effective in encouraging students to donate; and express the theme in a clever, creative fashion using conventional marketing techniques or innovative, artistic expressions.

Last year’s winners expressed their blood drive campaign themes through creative videos, t-shirt and poster designs. Scholarship recipients were: Bethany Faile from Beavercreek High School; Jay Bryant from Chaminade Julienne High School; Joseph Hall from Talawanda High School; Jackie Lentz from Lebanon High School; and Elizabeth Kimmel from Carlisle High School.

Completed applications must be postmarked no later than April 20 and mailed to CBC. Applicants can read about last year’s winners, see samples of their winning campaigns (including Bethany Faile’s “Have Love. Give Life. Leave a Legacy. Recycle Hope” video), and download an application form at www.GivingBlood.org.
