State of the Heart Hospice Names New Assistant Medical Director

State of the Heart Hospice has announced the appointment of Dr. Rick Bowlin as Assistant Medical Director for the nonprofit agency. With offices in Greenville, Coldwater and Portland, State of the Heart cares for patients and families in eastern Indiana and western Ohio who are confronting a life limiting illness.

“We’re pleased to have Dr. Bowlin join our hospice team as Assistant Medical Director,” stated Ted Bauer, Executive Director for State of the Heart. “He will participate in the certification process for patients cared for by our Darke County team.”

Dr. Bowlin, who is with Family HealthServices in Greenville, is an internist and has been a practicing physician for more than 20 years. He completed his undergraduate work at Ohio University, received his Medical Degree from Wright State University, and did his internship at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He did his internal medical residency at Kettering Hospital in Dayton.

“I am excited about becoming a part of the team of hospice caregivers,” he stated. “I am looking forward to my role as Assistant Medical Director.” He is familiar with State of the Heart and other hospices as they have cared for patients under his care, he added. He will work closely with Dr. Edward Hosbach of Ft. Recovery who is the Medical Director for State of the Heart. Dr. Hosbach has been working with State of the Heart for 19 years.

Dr. Bowlin’s wife is Dr. Julia Bowlin who is in family practice in Versailles. The couple has two children, a daughter, Josie, and a son, Britt. Dr. Bowlin is the past chief of staff at Wayne HealthCare. He continues to work part time as a hopitalist for Wayne HealthCare. In addition, he is past president of the Board for Darke County United Way and continues to serve on their board. He also serves on the board of directors for Grace Resurrection Community Center. (GRCC).
