Arcanum Historical Society Hosts Two Outstanding Events in September

Two outstanding events are coming to the Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society in the month of September. Thursday, September 12th at 7:00 will be the membership meeting. Judy Deeter, noted historian and author will present The Great Flood of 1913, as the Miami Valley observes the 100th anniversary of the flood. The flood was a huge disaster to the entire southwest corner of the state. She will relate how people survived, rebuilt and thrived.

Mrs. Deeter hails from Troy, Ohio and is President of the Troy Historical Society, President of the Overfield Tavern Museum and a past member of the board of directors of the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center. This author’s writing achievements include these titles: Veterans Who Applied for Land in Southern California 1851, A Hundred Years of Yesterdays, Mission Viejo: The Ageless Land, numerous articles in the Tour Great Miami magazine, Troy monthly magazine and written articles for My Miami County website. Her recently released book is Troy and The Great 1913 Flood.

The historical society is honored to present this program and expects a large turnout for the evening. Arrive early to secure a seat, no one will be turned away. The public is invited to attend, no admission is charged. Come and learn about the Great Flood and 100 Year Celebration.


The Historical Society, located at 123 W. George Street, Arcanum, is pleased and excited to host a Darke County Center of the Arts Presentation of Wild Carrot, September 19th at 7:00 p.m. Wild Carrot duo members, Pam Temple and Spencer Funk, will be singing and performing folk, Celtic, and light jazz music. This husband and wife team from Cincinnati will be playing the guitar, mandolin, dulcimer and concertina.

Tickets for the evening’s performance are $10.00. Tickets may be purchased from DCCA , at the Ben Franklin Store in Arcanum or at the door the evening of the performance. However, tickets will only be available until the capacity of the meeting room at AWTHS is filled.

A reminder, Euchre Parties are held every First and Third Friday from 1:00 – 3:30 p.m. at the historical building. No reservation needed, just come and play cards. The public is welcome.
