Mississinawa Valley-MVCTC FFA Darke County Fair Accomplishments


This year at fair the Mississinawa Valley-MVCTC FFA Chapter went above and beyond in many different areas. Members work hard all year preparing for the fair, no matter if it’s something as simple as watering their garden , or something that requires a lot of hard work and dedication like getting up every day at 7 am before the sun rises to walk their animals.

In the area of Crop and Shop around 40 students from the chapter entered items. Leslie Dirksen received outstanding shop with her 55A John Deere plow, and her sister Heather Received 2nd most outstanding shop with her 44 John Deere plow. These young ladies have spent countless hours preparing these plows, and have showed the true meaning of dedication with their outcomes at the fair. Zach Armstrong received 2nd place in the apple category, and 2nd in the 6 ears of corn category. Madison Livingston placed 2nd with her garden tomatoes.

Members that exhibited livestock also had a year to remember. Jacob Breymier received Grand Champion Market Heifer and Homegrown Heifer, Reserve Champion Bull and Crossbred Bull, and won his class in showmanship. Zach Dirmeyer exhibited one lamb and received 3rd overall Market Lamb in the barn. Zach also won his weight class as well as Champion in division IV. In showmanship he won the 15 year class and got 3rd overall showman in the barn. MacKenzie Dirmeyer exhibited two market lambs placing 1st in both of her weight classes and Reserve Champion in weight division II and IV. In showmanship she placed 2nd in the 15 year old class. Brad Slyder won the Men’s lead and 5th in the 15 year old showmanship class in the sheep barn. Chelsea Skidmore exhibited Dairy cows at the fair placing extremely well in several different categories. To start off she won Grand Champion Brown Swiss along with Reserve Grand Champion Brown Swiss. She received Reserve Jr Champion Brown Swiss and Supreme Grand Champion Dairy Female. For skillathon Chelsea placed 1st in Dairy. Stephanie Scholl placed 5th overall Meat Turkey. Nicole Scholl placed 6th overall also with her Meat Turkey. Bobby Hampshire exhibited Poultry.

At the General Livestock contest held on the last Wednesday off fair Joe Schmitz, Jacob Breymier, Kaelyn Marker, and MacKenzie Dirmeyer won first place as a team. Joe Schmitz placed 2nd overall individually and Jacob Breymier placed 5th overall individually. Levi Livingston and Tom Schmitz also participated in that contest. At the Dairy judging contest held on the first Saturday of the fair Chelsea Skidmore, Megan Wilson, Jacob Breymier, and Mason Roark placed 3rd as a team. Chelsea Skidmore placed 3rd overall individually.

Altogether this was an outstanding start to the school year for the chapter and individuals, and we hope to be this successful throughout the entire school year.
