The early registration deadline for State of the Heart Hospice’s inaugural “Heart and Sole 5K” is quickly approaching and will end Friday, January 31. The 5K will be held Saturday, February 15 and is open to both runners and walkers, and strollers are also welcome. The cost to participate is $25, which entitles the person to a free T shirt with the early registration. If one does not want the T shirt, registration up to January 31 costs$15. After the January 31st early registration deadline, the cost is $30 with no T shirt provided.
The run will be held at Rossburg Acres, 4300 Rossburg Lightsville Acres. Christy Baker, Development Specialist and event organizer for State of the Heart, said that all proceeds from the run will go to support the nonprofit agency’s new Care Center on the fourth floor of Wayne HealthCare. The Care Center, the only one of its kind in the area, opened last summer. State of the Heart Hospice has cared for patients and families in eastern Indiana and western Ohio who are confronting a life limiting illness for 33 years.
According to Baker, nearly 200 people have signed up for the race which will have a Valentine theme as it follows Valentines Day so closely. “We wanted to do an event that would be something which is of interest to a large group of people in all of the counties we serve,” she explained. “Rossburg Acres is centrally located and will provide a location that will allow participants from all areas we serve to participate.” Preferred Insurance of Coldwater is the presenting sponsor for the run.
The “Heart and Sole 5K” will be a festive event, she added. “We have a DJ who will be providing music, and there will be cash prizes to the top three overall male/female finishers, custom medals for the top three male/female finishers in each age division, a chocolate stop on the course, long sleeve tech shirts, and post race refreshments including hot Chocolate.”
