An Afternoon of 3D Entertainment

Sunday, March 23 please join us for some live action, 3D drama! The GHS Theatre Club, Troupe 4114 will present two remarkable performances at 2:00 pm at Greenville High School. The first performance will be Bang Bang You’re Dead. Performed by the troupe at Area Contest, this dramatic play revolves around Josh, a troubled youth and his “conversations” with his victims. William Mastrosimone, the writer, intended Bang Bang, You're Dead to be easily accessed and performed by teens. Its purpose is to raise awareness of the roots of school violence, which are not always easily seen. Mastrosimone hopes that the play will help people “see tragedy before it happens." He stresses the importance of young people seeing the play performed by their peers, due to the impressive strength the personal message brings.

The second performance, entitled Freak, will also be performed at the State Theatre Conference on March 29th. This play, written by Angela Hill, gives us a look inside the mind of your average teenager, Monique. Monique dreads school. The constant torment makes her feel like a sideshow freak. Every day Monique wanders the scariest place on earth, the school hallway, and wishes she could just disappear - and then she does. Monique finds herself out of high school and in an "unusual, disturbing, and fantabulastic" sideshow. Monique the freak, the freakiest freak of all, wonders how she got there, why she is there, and what other outcasts lurk inside. "I've already been to high school, that's like the biggest freak show of all,” she points out. This fantasy social drama explores bullying and its extreme consequences. Though sometimes dark, Freak emphasizes hope, and it is hope that finally leads her home.

These performances are a fundraising effort as well as a community awareness project for the club, with the profits being used to pay for the troupe’s transportation costs to State. Parents and students alike will find the messages of these plays important: sometimes uplifting, sometimes tragic, always thought provoking and entertaining. We would love to see the community come out and support the troupe, and these messages. If you are unable to attend these performances, donations for State will also be accepted, and can be sent to Greenville High School, to the attention of the Theatre Club.
