“It Is All Of Our Responsibility To Care For Our Elders”

Shuff Adult Day Center was created to “share the care” with families who are caring for a loved one in their home. Family caregivers are the “invisible healthcare workers” who provide care for their loved ones so they can remain in their own homes.

We recognize that these family members often provide care at an enormous personal cost. It is not unusual for their physical and emotional health to decline as family and job responsibilities pile up. Strained caregivers have higher levels of depression and are prone to illness. Many do not have a back-up plan to ensure their loved one will be taken care of if or when something happens to them. Frequently, these hard-working caregivers provide more than 50 hours a week of uncompensated care and are reluctant to ask for assistance for a wide variety of reasons.

Shuff Adult Day Center is dedicated to helping both the caregiver and their loved one. By providing a respite break for dedicated family caregivers, they can become stronger and healthier caregivers who make better decisions for their loved one. For caregivers who are still working, adult day care centers offer the peace of mind that their loved one is being stimulated and socialized in a safe, supervised environment.

Brethren Retirement Community also offers additional support to the families through hosting the Miami Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group. These informative meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every month from 4pm-5:30pm in the Meeting House at Brethren Retirement Community. Attendees learn ways to help cope with their role as a caregiver and learn better ways to care for the person with Alzheimer's. This is an open group, so feel free to stop by and join other caregivers or individuals who share a similar bond. We offer a free respite stay for your loved one in our Shuff Adult Day Center during the Support Group meetings. For more information on the Support Group, please call Melissa Benline at 547-7676 and to schedule a respite stay for your loved one call 547-7657.
